Black Friday for personal trainers: how to run a promotion without undervaluing your work

The short answer

Black Friday 2026 falls on November 27. For a personal trainer, the promotion that works isn't half price: it's trading a discount for something that's worth it to you, like upfront payment, a longer contract, a referred client or a slot that was empty. A discount with nothing in return only teaches clients to wait until November to sign up.

And the part people forget most: the promotion has to respect the client who already pays full price. If the newcomer pays less and the long-time client finds out, you've gained one client and put three at risk.

Before offering a discount, do three calculations

  1. How many slots you truly have free. An in-person trainer has inventory: the hours in your schedule. If four good slots are free, the promotion is for four people, not for whoever shows up.
  2. What your floor is. A discount that puts your session below what it costs you (travel, planning time, taxes) is a loss with a waiting list. The how-much-to-charge calculator shows that number.
  3. What you want in return. Cash upfront, retention, referrals or filling a bad time slot. Each one calls for a different format, and that's what decides which of the five models below to use.

The five models that work

1. Long-term plan at a discount

The classic, and the best for your cash flow. Someone paying R$ 400 a month pays R$ 4,800 a year. With 15% off the annual plan, that's R$ 4,080 coming in right away, and a client committed to twelve months instead of one. If twelve months is too much, do the same with six months and 10%.

Only offer a long-term plan with a signed contract that says what happens if they stop midway: how much is refunded, how quickly and whether there's a fee (which has to be reasonable). The post on personal trainer contract has the clauses.

2. Discounted first month, only for newcomers

Good for filling your schedule. The discount applies once, for the first month, and then it goes back to the regular price, which is already written in the offer. That way you don't create a new price list: you create a way in.

Prefer a fixed amount (R$ 100 off the first month) over a big percentage. "50% off the first month" makes the second month feel like a price increase.

3. Referral with a reward for both

A current client brings a friend and both win: the friend gets a discount on joining, and the current client gets a free week, an extra body assessment or a discounted month. It's the model that most respects the people already training with you, because they get the benefit too. How to ask without making it awkward is in the post how to ask clients for referrals.

4. Bonus instead of a discount

Keep the price and expand the package: a full body assessment when they sign up, a holiday workout plan for December and January, a partner session with a friend, a reassessment in 60 days. The client feels they got more, and your price doesn't drop.

It's the best model for trainers whose schedule is already full and who want to raise the perceived value without touching their prices.

5. Win back former clients

November is a great month to reach out to people who stopped: lots of people want to be in shape for summer. An offer just for former clients, with a short deadline, brings back people who already know and trust you, the cheapest client to win. The message script is in the post about clients who skip sessions.

What not to do

  • Half price for everyone. It attracts people who only come for the price and leave when it goes back to normal.
  • Making up the "was" price. Advertising "was R$ 600, now R$ 400" when you've always charged R$ 400 is misleading advertising under Brazil's Consumer Protection Code (CDC), and Procon, the consumer agency, checks exactly this on Black Friday. The "was" price has to be what you actually charged before.
  • A deadline that never ends. If the offer "ends Sunday" and it's still on Monday, nobody believes the next one.
  • Fake scarcity. "Last spots" only if it's true. In your case it usually is: your schedule is limited. Say how many there are.
  • Forgetting your current clients. Before announcing, message your current clients with an offer just for them (a bonus, early renewal at the same discount). Nobody likes to find out about a promotion from a story.
  • Hidden terms. The offer must clearly state who it's for, for how long, on which plan and how to pay. What you advertise, you have to deliver.
A sale made online (link, page, WhatsApp) gives the client seven days to withdraw with no explanation needed, under article 49 of Brazil's Consumer Protection Code. That applies on Black Friday too. Spell out in the offer how refunds work.

November calendar

  • By Nov 10: decide the model, the price, the number of spots and the deadline. Review the contract.
  • Nov 10 to Nov 20: warm-up. Stories with your work, client results (with permission) and a waiting list: "if you want to know first, reply YES".
  • 20/11: tell your current clients before everyone else, with their offer.
  • Nov 27 (Friday): opens the offer to everyone. Pin a post and send it to the waiting list first.
  • Nov 30 (Monday): last day, announced in advance. The next day, the offer really comes down.
  • First week of December: count how many signed up and how much came in, so you know whether to repeat the format next year.

How to set this up in Trainer Connect

Coupons live on My page, under "Discount coupons". Each coupon can be a percentage or a fixed amount, with a start and end date (Nov 27 to Nov 30, for example), a usage limit equal to the spots you have, and restricted to specific plans, such as annual only. When the limit runs out, the coupon stops working on its own, without you having to remember to take it down.

The client applies the code when signing up through your page, pays and signs the contract right there. On the same screen, the page funnel shows how many visited, how many opened checkout and how many paid, so you can see whether the offer is drawing people in and where they drop off.

For promotion, the Ready-made posts (under Content → Materials) already include "open slots" and "trial session" templates for feed and stories, in your brand color and with your @.
